Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Nags Head vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in Nags Head. To find the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Nags Head rental:

  • First, have your group agree to dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. K1232 It's A Shore Thing. Semi-Oceanfront, Private Pool, Rec Room! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
