Strategies to get the best rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation rental:

  • Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Summer stays still open has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If not, call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you crave, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
