Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Nags Head restaurants and activities.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your group choose dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Catchin' Zs: Amazing views and private pool in the heart of Nags Head has 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head attraction you love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
