Getting the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Summer is high season in Nags Head. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 7BR House w\/Pool. 250 yrd Walk to Beach and Ocean View in Gallery Row has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your group.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
