Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Anchor's Away: Hot Tub, Rec Room & Fenced Backyard has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head beach you are enamored with, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
