Tips and Tricks for getting the best Nags Head rental experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Nags Head area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the best vacation rental:

  • Start by having your family select the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 5864 - Panorama SNHD has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
