Strategies to get the optimal vacation home experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose and book the right Nags Head vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Oceanfront
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head beach you are enamored with, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
