Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Book your Nags Head vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting and booking your prefectrental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. 332 - Gorgeous Water Views, Community Pool Access, and Minutes to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
