Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Booking in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Nags Head rental:

  • First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Come join us for the Holidays, Walk to the beach/restaurant/parks/\nshopping has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. message the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
