Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting the best vacation home in Nags Head:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Tranquil Turtle at The Village at Nags Head, Private Pool, Hot Tub & Elevator Access has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
