Want a taste of old Nags Head? 'The Beach House' is a historical treasure on the Nags Head oceanfront with an added private pool and hot tub! The pool area has great ocean vistas. The Beach House has the tallest ocean front observation/sunbathing tower on the Outer Banks with a 360 degree view of the ocean, the sound, and Jockey's Ridge. At nighttime you will be able to catch a glimpse of the light from Bodie Island lighthouse. This property is over 100 years old, and dates back to the days the inland farmers would bring their families to the beach to escape the heat and deadly mosquitoes for beach breezes all summer long! After generations with the same family, it was purchased by owners that respected the history of the property and wanted to add their own touch with the whimsical and fun decor theme of roosters and chickens. If you are interested in a unique destination filled with rich history this is the spot for you. Floor, walls and ceiling is original tongue in groove planking that has been restored and refinished. You can see the original nails from the sanding of the floor planks.

Central heat and air throughout the property has been added and the kitchen and bathrooms completely redone with granite, new fixtures, farm sink, and washer and dryer. LCD TV's throughout the property. The bunk room on the west side does have an additional window unit for those additional hot days just in case. There is a separate room off the back-deck original to the property, now for a study work area with computer and desk, plus there is wireless internet access throughout property and study. Located between Jockey's Ridge and the Atlantic Ocean, you can see Jockey's Ridge from the property. What a great location to base active families on the go! Hang gliding, climbing Jockey's Ridge, kite flying, playing in the ocean, sunbathing or appreciating the private pool and hot tub are available with painless access. There is a shared dune top gazebo beach access you share with only 2 modest semi oceanfront apartments next to the property. The pool and hot tub are your private amenities. Eateries, shopping, seafood and farm market are within walking distance. Close to family activities including water sports, go carts, putt-putt, and a sound side park and theater for outdoor movies on the lawn.

Savor the remarkable expansive vistas from the 51 ft observation/sunbathing tower! On the lower deck there will be a couch, two chairs, and a coffee table with outdoor carpet. This is a ideal play area for modest kids. Entry from the first deck to the higher decks will be controlled by a high "pool-like" gate. Entry from the home to the tower will be controlled with a security code preventing unwanted access. On the second level of the deck there will be 4 comfortable chairs to savor the view. On the third level of the deck you will be able to appreciate the breeze from the swing facing the ocean. The top level is where you will be able to see expansive vistas of the ocean, Jockey's Ridge, the light from Bodie Island Lighthouse at nighttime, and striking vistas of the sunset! There will be chaise loungers for sunbathing too! The tower will have motion-activated solar lighting for all stairwells up to the top for simple viewing at nighttime.

This property is more than 800 feet from a public beach access, giving you a more secluded feel.

Strategies for getting the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

Get the best value:

  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summer months are high season in the Nags Head area. To find the best vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Nags Head restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Oceanfront
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
