Strategies to get the perfect Nags Head vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • To find the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Finding the perfect rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Last Minute special\/ping pong table\/oceanfront\/pool\/elevator\/old nags head style has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your family.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
