Tricks and tips for getting the best rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Nags Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Selecting the perfect rental in Nags Head:

  • To start, have your family agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Nags Head
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
