Stormwater outfalls were installed in the early 1960s. They allow rainwater to drain away from the lower areas between the highways of U.S. 158 and N.C. 12, which assists with flood prevention. (See photo gallery) The town recommends not swimming within 200 ft of this pipe. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality regularly monitors the outfall sites and collects water samples to ensure there are no contaminants that would threaten human or marine life.

Tricks and tips to get the optimal Nags Head rental home experience:

Find your best deal:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and choose the bestrental:

  • Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Serenity By The Sea: Historic oceanfront, amazing ocean views & spacious decks! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
