Our top Rental property booking tips:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and picking a perfectrental:

  • Select dates and budget.
  • 500 ft to the beach
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
