Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Book your Nags Head rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Classic Nags Head Style Cottage has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
