Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Finding the best value:
- Book your Nags Head vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Nags Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Beautiful Home with a Hot Tub and Community Pool in season has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Additional considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
