Finding the best Nags Head vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • To get the best value, try shifting your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful Home with a Hot Tub and Community Pool (in season) has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your contract.

Have a great stay:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
