Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summer time is high season in Nags Head. Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking the bestrental:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Location! Location! Location! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
