Our top Vacation rental home tips:

When to reserve a Nags Head rental & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. BEACH GETAWAY! great beach access, fire pit, close to shops, dog friendly has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your contract.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
