Rental booking tips:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. Reserve your Nags Head rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Finding the perfect vacation home in Nags Head:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Gillespie Cottage: Oceanfront
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
