Strategies for getting the best Nags Head rental home experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Summertime is high season in Nags Head. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the best rental home in the Nags Head area:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Coastal Dune 3: Oceanfront Cottage on the Sand in Nags Head! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
