Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your Nags Head vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to select the perfect rental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 409 - Newly Remodeled Nags Head Rental with Amazing Water Views has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
