Vacationers will notice a handful of sailboats at every local Outer Banks port, either saddled up to the docks or breezing across the harbor, en route to the nearest sound for a cruise, or to the continent-spanning Intracoastal Waterway to continue a long coastal voyage. Some vacationers are even in it for the long haul, docking for a summer or a winter season at a number of local marinas that offer all the comforts of home. Clearly, sailing lovers of all varieties have plenty of options, but even newcomers to the sport can experiment with life on the water with a local sailing lesson, rental, or waterfront cruise.
One of the newer auto parts stores on the Outer Banks, Car Quest is a locally-owned chain store that has what vehicle owners need to take care of anything from a motorcycle to a pickup truck to a SUV. Basic supplies like oil and transmission fluid can be found here, as well as summer needs like air conditioner kits and boosters, sun protection window tint, sun shades for windows and antifreeze/coolant for the radiator. The store stocks a good supply of car wash equipment and cleaners and waxes, too. Plus traveling road warriors can come here to find such necessities as trailer hitches and new batteries. Car Quest also custom makes high pressure hydraulic hoses and custom mixes vehicle paint colors. The store also carries some marine supplies for boaters.
