How to find the best vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose your Nags Head rental home:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Private Pool, Hot Tub, Dog Friendly
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
