Strategies for getting the perfect Nags Head rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Nags Head area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Nags Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the best rental:

  • To start, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Canal home with porch swing, community pool, outdoor shower & private dock has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
