Rental property booking tips:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the perfect rental home:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Private Pool has 10 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
