Rental property booking tips:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose the right Nags Head rental home:

  • Start by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Shore'em Dreamin': 5 master bedrooms, private hot tub, community pool, close to has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head destination you are enamored with, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
