Rental home tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Semi-oceanfront and affordable in quiet South Nags Head! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
