Our top Rental booking tips:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best value, change your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the rightrental:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Just blocks from the beach on a budget! Nostalgic 3 BR cottage in Nags Head! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
